SIN FRONTERAS

Nature will always be the greatest teacher. Nature has no boundaries and its creatures can travel the world with no passport or law in order to stay alive, reproduce and keep natural divine order. Monarch butterflies are a great example of this fabulous phenomenon. They travel north to south  America and cross country to experience one of the most fascinating transformational manifestations of nature > Metamorphosis.

They represent a deep connection between north America and Mexico. They are free immigrants of the planet and thru metamorphosis they have also represented a spiritual journey for native people in both countries and their cosmo-vision.

Summer Romero is a Mexican-American textile and fashion designer that has been working with indigenous communities for 10 years in Mexico, combining traditional  and millenary textile techniques with contemporary fashion. Thru the Gaianauta story, each chapter belongs to a collection. Since 2016 she has lived in Valle de Bravo, State of  Mexico, near the mountain where Mazahua culture resides and one of the main places where monarch butterflies arrive each the Winter. Deeply influenced by their magic and spirit Summer was inspired to create two full Chapters of her  Gaianauta story based on such a stunning natural phenomenon for the past 2 years.

Butterflies are one of the great polinaisers of nature, and their extinction will mean the end of human life.

In both Native American and Mexican traditions, butterflies teach us that full transformation is needed  in order to evolve and gain true freedom.

One must be ready to die, to confront and kill oneself old beliefs in order to  gain ones wings to fly and be free.

Our intention is to create awareness of the delicate and urgent actual situation that monarch butterflies are going thru and how each year less come form Chicago and north America to Mexico.

In order to sensitize people living in the big cities about natural life and its decay, in order to find common solutions and getting people involved in helping monarch butterflies stay strong and alive we are coming together to expand the message and would love to extend the invitation to your space to join us on this mission.

Through an experiential show where all  senses are stimulated we will create a immersive journey for the spectator being a full experience.

All these reflecting and mirroring the metamorphosis from the struggle and darkness of the cocoon to the light of transformation. Honoring  the great labor and commitment of their journey in their immigration to Mexico, and the connection between its people and all the ones that have immigrated in between these two countries in the struggle to survive.
